Regional Archeology Service of Brittany, Rennes
At the regional level, the State's archaeological missions are carried out by the Regional Archaeological Services (SRA), under the authority of the regional directors of Cultural Affairs and regional prefects. These services are made up of personnel from different specialties: scientists, curators, research engineers, design engineers, assistant engineers and research technicians, documentalists and administrative personnel.
Headed by a Regional Archaeological Curator (CRA), the SRA ensure that legislation relating to archaeology is applied. They prescribe diagnostics and preventive excavations, examine requests for authorization to excavate, and monitor and control their execution, in liaison with the territorial commissions for archaeological research.
In collaboration with the latter, they supervise regional archaeological research and contribute to the enrichment and updating of the national archaeological map.
These services implement the measures necessary for the protection, conservation and promotion of the movable and immovable archaeological heritage. They ensure the dissemination and promotion of research.
