Collection management

Your size
We are a team with a range of skills, specializing in the field of databases for large collections of objects (museums, archives, libraries) powered by open-source solutions.

Opensource
We work to provide ambitious open-source tools to as many cultural institutions and research organizations as possible. We are responsive and adaptive, and are used to bringing together teams of 1 to 20 people depending on the size of the project.

Gestion des collections
With the CollectiveAccess project, which allows large physical collections to be managed in a web interface (Whirl-i-Gig deployed CollectiveAccess at the 9/11 Memorial Museum in New York), Idéesculture has re-computerized the collections of the Villa Medici in Rome, created the virtual museum of the National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research (INRAP), and renewed the Exhibition Database of the Musée d'Orsay, as well as an increasing number of French museums. There is an offer on CollectiveAccess in ever more languages and countries...

Research
We also work on the management of purely digital collections (instrument making and audio analysis with data visualization) and have been active in the ANR P-RECIHC project “Reading in Europe: Contemporary Issues in Historical and Comparative Perspectives”, helping to develop a format derived specifically from the Text Encoding Initiative standard, and thus use archiving standards in research on reading practices.

Our values and our methodology
Goodwill
Our primary role is to provide support, through advice, training, user assistance or just by listening. This comes well before software development. If we can't reproduce a problem you've encountered in the interface, we don't consider that the problem doesn't exist. This may not seem like much to you, but it makes all the difference in a relationship with a development team.
Recommending opensource without imposing it
We are convinced that the software world would be better off with more and more open source solutions. We will always promote an open source solution when we can and have put online or collaborated on dozens of open source projects. Often our developments coexist with proprietary software, we respect the tools in place and are convinced that richness comes from interconnection.
The importance of human contact
We work in a sector of enthusiasts, whether it be for culture, creativity, open source or free technologies. Exchanging with enthusiasts is a small daily pleasure.
