S-Museum

WE MIGRATE YOUR DATA TO

CollectiveAccess

S-Museum is a serious full-web solution, published by SKINsoft (Besançon, since 2008), SPECTRUM-compliant and validated by the Service des Musées de France. Some of its users choose to join the CollectiveAccess ecosystem — for source code sovereignty, to be part of an international open source community, or for a controlled total cost over 10 years. We have already supported this migration; we know how to bring across records, vocabularies and media.

STEP 02 · 1 TO 3 WKS

Mapping

Design of the target CollectiveAccess structure — projection of your S-Museum model into CA record types and relations, validated with your scholarly teams.

DELIVERABLES
  • Customised CA profile

Eleven concrete reasons to migrate.

S-Museum → CollectiveAccess
AXIS

COLLECTIVEACCESS
Business model
Proprietary — licence + annual maintenance paid to the publisher
Open source (GPL) — no licence, no royalty
Source code
Closed — only the publisher evolves the software core
Open — international community (Whirl-i-Gig, European integrators, idéesculture)
Community & ecosystem
Centred on a single publisher (SKINsoft) and its partners
International CollectiveAccess community — Mémorial du 11 septembre (NY), Villa Médicis, Musée d'Orsay, INRAP…
Metadata standards
SPECTRUM compliant, Joconde exports, validated by Service des Musées de France
Dublin Core, EAD, VRA Core, MARC, PBCore, muséesDeFrance profile — native
Public website
SKINsoft publication modules (S-Web, S-Voyager) optional
Pawtucket included — faceted public site, ready to theme
API / interoperability
SKINsoft API, OAI-PMH, standardised exports
Open REST API + OAI-PMH, RDF, Linked Data, Z39.50 — documented and free
Domain plugins
SKINsoft modules (S-Archive, S-Library, S-Naturalia, S-Archeo…) to be acquired
14 record types as standard; idéesculture plugins (muséesDeFrance, NFC, offline mode, 3D…) open source
Long-term viability
Tied to SKINsoft's commercial longevity
GPL code — exportable at any time, independent of any single publisher
Source code sovereignty
Proprietary black box — you depend on a publisher for every change
Open code — any team (yours, idéesculture, another integrator) can evolve it
Hosting
SKINsoft cloud or on the museum's server — GDPR depending on contract
Hosted in France (OVH Roubaix / Strasbourg) or on your premises, GDPR-native
Reversibility
Export via SKINsoft tools (SPECTRUM formats, XML)
Standard MySQL database — exportable SQL dump, readable with any tool

★ Three gains change the game: moving away from proprietary software, open source code and source code sovereignty. Everything else — durability, openness, interoperability — flows from there.

— Guarantees
03

Four safety nets.

Included
01 INTEGRITY

Data preserved

No loss. Every Micromusée field finds its equivalent — including hierarchies, controlled vocabularies and media links.

02 ACCEPTANCE

Tested round-trip

Before going live, you work on a copy of your real database, in pre-production. Adjustments are free of charge.

03 SOVEREIGNTY

You stay in control

The server is hosted by us, but the database and the media belong to you. Full export available at any time, in an open format.

04 COST

No hidden licence

Once migrated, no more purchase or extension fees. You pay for hosting and support, that's it.
